Employee Expectations:
These standards are a set of guidelines that exemplify the behavior we expect at Thayer County Health Services. If I were to become a staff member of Thayer County Health Services, I understand, I would be a direct reflection of the entire organization. Therefore, I would pledge to uphold all of the Behavior Standards as outlined below.
Attitude
• Patient care will take precedence over our own personal needs.
• I will treat everyone with empathy, honesty, compassion, courtesy and sincerity and respect.
• I will take pride in myself and my work, being attentive and focused in all my interactions.
• I will strive to provide timely and prompt service. I will apologize for any delays.
• I will be responsible and mature, and always use appropriate language.
• I will be genuinely sincere in all my interactions with patients and co-workers.
• I will be respectful of each individual’s personality and never be rude.
Teamwork
• I will achieve balance between presenting my own solutions to problems and openly accept the ideas of other.
• I will maintain focus on the care of our patients by resolving conflict and setting aside differences when working with others.
• I will demonstrate a positive attitude and give positive feedback especially when coaching fellow employees on performance issues.
• I will promote teamwork and cooperation, never saying “It’s not my job”.
• I will always be available and willing to help patients and co-workers even if I am on my scheduled break. My patients and co-workers will come first.
Ownership
• I will take pride in my workplace keeping it in a neat and orderly fashion, and be respectful to others work area, and belongings.
• I will accept responsibility for the work that I do.
• I will take an active role in using resources effectively, efficiently, responsibly and lead by example.
• I will return equipment that I use to its proper place in the condition that it was in.
• I will provide information for ideas and solutions.
• I will strive to be a part of the solution.
Integrity
• Steadfast adherence to a strict ethical code: honesty, truthfulness, and sincerity.
• I will have a clear understanding about my job role and responsibilities.
• I will take responsibility for my actions and be truthful.
• I will not make excuses for providing low quality work.
• I will respect my co-workers’ abilities to do their own job.
• I will not regard myself as better than another employee because of job status, age, mental or physical ability or religion.
• I will uphold and carry out the goals and policies of TCHS, and provide the best possible care to our patients.
Appearance
• My appearance will reflect a competent, professional and approachable attitude.
• My attire will be tasteful, discrete and professional, meeting the demands of the Dress Code Policy.
• I will ensure that personal conversations, demeanors and all behaviors are appropriate of the situation.
• I will pick up unwanted trash in and around the facility, and dispose of it properly.
• I will take pride in the facility and treat it as if I owned it.
• I will wear my identification badge correctly and according to the hospital policy.
Communication
• I will accept responsibility for establishing and maintaining healthy communication with all my co-workers and all my patients.
• I will listen attentively and will be aware of and avoid distractions while communicating with others.
• I will be aware of how I am presenting myself to others, through body language and verbal communication.
• I will be aware of the messages my verbal and non-verbal language can send, such as how the tone of my voice can convey rudeness.
• I will be aware of the stature I take and the eye contact I use in my communication. I will always remember that my attitude, words, vocal tone, body language and actions can have a tremendous impact on another person, be it a co-worker or our patients.
• I will strive to communicate to co-workers and patients what I expect of them in a professional manner, and without complaining.
• I will treat others in the same manner that I would want to be treated. This includes saying “please” and “thank you” to co-workers and our patients alike.
• I will maintain HIPPA guidelines when I communicate with others. I will safeguard patient confidentiality by never discussing patient care, their private information, or hospital business where it could be overheard.
• I will identify myself and the department I represent in a professional manner when I answer the phone.
• I will not engage in gossip.
• I will keep personal phone calls, internet usage, and conversations to a minimum during work time.
• If I am in the position of being a Department Head/Director, I will keep all coworkers in my department fully aware and updated regarding in-services and meetings.
